Holy Week Worship
Here is a brief description of the various offerings during Holy Week (Sunday, April 13-Saturday, April 19):
Sunday, April 13, at 8:00 am and 10:15
Palm Sunday. We will gather in the parish hall before each service to participate in the Liturgy of the Palms. After gathering our palms, we will process up to the church singing and making a joyful (and loud) noise. The joy is soon transformed into the seriousness of Jesus’s last night and the sorrow of his crucifixion as we read The Passion narrative aloud.
Wednesday, April 16, at noon, 6:00 pm for a meal, and 7:00 pm for service
We will have a Wednesday noon Eucharist service in the church. Then at 6:00 pm, we will gather in the parish hall for a simple supper of soup, salad, and bread and then head to the church for a contemplative prayer service developed and led by Deb Sterner.
Thursday, April 17, at 6:30 pm
Maundy Thursday. This service focuses on the final hours of Jesus with his disciples before his arrest. We engage in the service of washing each other’s feet and then participate in silence at the service’s end by stripping the altar bare. I conclude the service by washing the altar in the remaining blessed wine covering it in the blood of Christ.
Thursday, April 18, from 8:00 pm until Friday, April 19, at noon from home
Virtual Adoration. Jesus asked his disciples, “Could you not stay awake with me for one hour?” as he was in the Garden of Gethsemane praying before his arrest. In this service, you sign-up for one hour to pray for church and meditate on Jesus’s sacrifice. This is done at home.
Friday, April 18, at noon and 6:30 pm
Good Friday. We will gather in the church at noon to walk the Stations of the Cross and again at 6:30 to do the Good Friday liturgy.
Saturday, April 19, at 7:00 pm at the Cathedral of St. Luke, Orlando, Florida
We are invited to join other churches from our diocese for the Easter Vigil service at the cathedral. I will be serving on the altar along with other clergy from the diocese. This is a beautiful, high church service with bells and incense.
