We do not know of a single person at St. Matthew’s who has not been touched by cancer – themselves, a family member, a friend, a co-worker. A great way for us to band together and show our support to those who battle this disease, to honor survivors, and to remember loved ones lost is to participate in Relay For Life.
Yes, it is a fund raiser, but it is so much more!
It is a community building experience – walk or cheer on the Survivor Walk and you’ll know what we mean.
It is a soul-searching experience – participate in the “Fight Back” and ceremony and you’ll be challenged.
It is a sacred experience – admire the thousands of luminaries, honor the silence and know God is present.
Relay For Life events are held in the spring. What happens:
Organized, overnight community fundraising walk
Teams of people camp out around a track
Members of each team take turns walking around the track
Food, games and activities provide entertainment and build camaraderie
Family-friendly environment for the entire community
Because it’s a team event, individual participants are not required to be there the entire time. But it’s so much fun, you’ll find it hard to leave!
